Your proposal says '20 moving heads on a 12m truss.' It does not mention the 480kg load that truss is carrying, whether the venue ceiling can handle it, when the rigging was last inspected, or who is responsible if a safety chain fails. Your proposal says '3-phase power distribution for LED wall and PA.' It does not mention the total amperage draw, whether the venue's supply can handle it without tripping, or what happens when the caterer plugs six chafing dishes into the same circuit. Every AV company in the industry quotes equipment. Almost none of them quote the risks that equipment creates. The strange thing is that risk assessment is not optional. In the UK, the Health and Safety Executive requires a written risk assessment for any event involving five or more people. Weather exposure for outdoor events — rain protection for electronics, wind ratings for LED walls and speaker arrays, temperature limits for projectors and batteries. Crowd flow impact — how AV placement affects emergency egress, whether speaker stacks block fire exits, whether cable runs cross evacuation routes. Working at height — anyone operating above 2m needs fall protection, and the equipment they are installing needs a lifting plan.

How do most AV companies handle risk assessment today? The honest answer: badly.
